Historic Homecoming Day observed in Tokyo..

The Bangladesh Mission in Tokyo commemorated the historic Homecoming Day of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on January 10, 2024, with due reverence. The day began with placing a floral wreath at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's portrait, followed by a solemn one-minute silence honoring his memory and that of the martyrs of the Liberation War. The program proceeded with a special prayer dedicated to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members, and the martyrs. Embassy officials read out the messages from the Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister issued on this significant occasion.

In his address, His Excellency the Ambassador expressed his deep homage to the memory of the Father of the Nation and prayed for his departed soul. He also paid solemn tribute to the martyrs of the independence war, recognizing their supreme sacrifice. The Ambassador highlighted that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman envisioned a prosperous and equitable Bangladesh, free from exploitation, injustice and disparities. Emphasizing Bangabandhu's profound love for his people and his vision for an inclusive society, the Ambassador underscored how these ideals formed the foundation of his philosophy. On January 10, 1972, after enduring over nine and a half months of captivity in a Pakistani jail, Bangabandhu returned to an independent Bangladesh and to his beloved people. His time in captivity, facing inhumane treatment and an unjust trial, could not diminish his resolve. Upon his return, Bangabandhu took charge of the nation, demonstrating remarkable wisdom, leadership, and foresight in rebuilding a war-torn and long-neglected country, a rarity in contemporary history. His contribution included the creation of a modern and progressive Constitution that outlined fundamental principles for social justice, ensuring the rights of the marginalized, and eliminating social inequalities. The Ambassador urged everyone to persist in their efforts to materialize Bangabandhu's vision of a 'Sonar Bangla' (Golden Bengal) through the execution of “Vision 2041” to turn Bangladesh a knowledge based, developed, modern and smart Bangladesh .

Following the address by His Excellency the Ambassador, a discussion on the significance of the Father of the Nation's Homecoming Day took place. Embassy officials actively participated in this discourse. The speakers reflected on Bangabandhu's timely and practical measures to revive the crippled economy, despite facing dire financial constraints with almost no resource at hand. However, Bangabandhu believed that with the fertile soil and his people working hard things can change. Despite limited resources, Bangabandhu initiated various programs aimed at providing essential necessities like food and clothing, expanding educational and healthcare opportunities for the people, and fostering socio-economic activities that benefited the underprivileged. His wisdom and astuteness were evident across all facets of governance, from diplomacy to administrative management, leaving an indelible mark. The speakers underscored Bangabandhu's swift establishment of international relations with countries like India, the Soviet Union, Japan and other countries within the first year of independence and made her mark as young and vibrant new nation.

A documentary was screened highlighting some of the historical moments of Bangabandhu’s life including his visit to Japan in 1973.   The program concluded by thanking everyone for their spontaneous participation and cooperation.
